This is a simple project for all skill levels of sewing. I am by no means great at sewing, but can manage to pull off a decent looking pillow. So if I can do it, any of you can too! Pillows are a great accent for just about anything, including the bench we recently built! If you make some pillows, send us your pictures and we’ll share with everyone!
Steps:
1. Lay Your Fabric out on a flat surface. Fold it in half one time.
2. Depending on the size pillow you want, measure the dimensions out using the ruler and marker. I am wanting a square pillow somewhere around 13”. Keep in mind that you will lose about a centimeter or so after sewing, so add that to your desired size. I measured 14”. You will not cut the folded side of the fabric, this will be one less side you will have to sew. In fact, I would start measuring off one of the edges because that’s one less cut you have to make as well.
If you have a light fabric color, draw on the back of the fabric or use a pencil instead. .
3. Cut the pillow shape out.
4. Turn the fabric inside out (if you haven’t already) so that the design or final side of the fabric is not showing. Keep it folded in half.
5. Measure and draw a line, a centimeter or so in from the edge, outlining the pillow (except for the folded edge side) so that you can follow in a straight line as you sew. I measured about a centimeter in from the edge.
6. Thread your needle (Or prepare your sewing machine)
7. Begin sewing, following the outline you drew on the fabric.
Make sure you make an “L” shape with the thread at the corners if you like pointed corners.
8. Leave an opening big enough for your hand to fit through. (So you can turn the fabric back out and also stuff it.) I like to have my opening on the side across from the folded side, but any side will work. When you are done sewing the outline, tie off your thread and then turn the fabric inside out so that the final design is showing again.
9. Lay the pillow out flat and straighten all the corners out.
10. Begin stuffing the pillow to your desired thickness. Make sure the corners are stuffed as well.
11. Sew up the opening, making sure you tuck in the edges. It’s important to pick a thread that will blend well because it will show here.
12. Cut any long threads (that aren’t vital to keeping it closed) and finish fluffing until it is your desired shape/look. And that’s it! Enjoy your new pillow!
You can make them all sorts of colors, designs, sizes, shapes, etc. Let your creativity go crazy! (I’ve even made a snake shaped pillow before for my nephew!)

AND REMEMBER TO SEND PICTURES OF YOUR CREATIONS!!!
